Music for Endangered Forests
expansion
a living forest concert series
Calling all Hikers, Forest Lovers and Elphinstone Protected Forest Area Supporters for Music under the Trees
Join us for a Concert Series on three Sundays this summer (July 27, August 3 and August 24) starting at 1pm in support of the expansion and connection of Elphinstone’s protected forest areas about xwesam / Stelk’aya (Roberts Creek). The Concerts take place in the Health Trail Forest Trailhead #1, opposite the Oxygen Trail Forest (where last summer’s concerts took place).
Admission is by donation and registration is not required. Participation is at your own risk. Each performance will be about 45 to 50 minutes long and takes place within a 15 to 20-minute downhill hike along a well-maintained forest trail. There is the option of returning the way you entered, or you can continue for about 45 minutes on the trail to exit at Trailhead #2 on the Roberts Creek Forest Road walking downhill through a stunning forest, home to about 100 old growth trees.

Songs for the Lungs of the Forest
Em Postl (vocals) and Thomas Hoeller (guitar)
Streams Poetry Project is a collaboration between Em Postl, Thomas Hoeller, and poems written by other people. Improvisational, intuitive, and stream-like in nature, their compositional practice allows for the poem (and poet) to act as an equal collaborator in the creation of each song. Streams emerged in 2016 while Em and Thomas were working together on another project, and it continues to evolve with every new poem and collaborator they invite into the process. Currently, Em and Thomas are working on a grant to fund their debut album which will include new compositions created in collaboration with a handful of B.C. poets. and feature Elisa Thorn (harp), Kevin Romain (drums) and James Meger (bass). As a listener, you may recognize some verses, but the hope is that you connect with their meanings in new ways as you lose yourself in the introspective, inventive and intimate sounds.
Sunday, August 3
The Understory Choir
Led by Kiki Connelly, featuring Anna Lumiere (voice & mini-organ) and Mike Agranovich (voice & guitar)
The Understory Choir, led by Kiki Connelly and supported by Anna Lumiere on voice and melodica and Mike Agranovich on voice and guitar will encourage audience participation with this impromptu choir (listeners welcome too), singing together and honouring time and place in the forest we love.
Sunday, August 24
Water’s Journey
Steve Wright (guitar & voice) and Graham Ord (flute)
Steve Wright is a producer, musician, music educator and a creative catalyst on the Sunshine Coast.
